Project Description:

Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township

Sanitary Sewer Project

The Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township provides wastewater and water service to residents of Buffalo Township, Butler County.  The project area consists of the Little Buffalo Creek and Buffalo Creek watersheds.  Little Buffalo Creek and Buffalo Creek are high quality trout stocked streams with critical water quality concerns.  To solve these critical wat er quality discharge limitations and provide a cost effective wastewater collection and treatment system, Gibson-Thomas Engineering Co., Inc. recommended and designed an extended aeration treatment plant using chemical nitrogen and phosphorus removal and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection.  This project was completed in the fall of 1998.  Gibson-Thomas Engineering Co., Inc. has been involved in all phases of the project since its inception and design.  We provided technical and grant application assistance for the $10.2 million dollar Pennvest Loan as well as the $3.3 million dollar Revenue Bond to construct the project.  The total system consists of a 0.48 mgd extended aeration sewage treatment plant, two pump stations, and thirty-three (33) miles of gravity collector lines serving approximately 1066 customers.

Project Description:

Central Indiana County Joint Sanitary Authority

Wastewater Collection and Treatment

The project area is located in South Central Indiana County, five miles south of Indiana Borough and seven miles northeast of Blairsville Borough.  The area includes the Borough of Homer City and surrounding areas of Center Township and environs.  The area is drained by Two Lick Creek and its major tributary is Yellow Creek.  The water quality in these streams dictates a secondary wastewater treatment facility with no tertiary requirement.  The Authority constructed a $14.6 million dollar collection and treatment system for the service area through a combination of RUS grants and loans as well as Community Development Block Grants, and local funding.  The project services approximately 2100 customers, and includes approximately 50 miles of various diameter sewers ranging from 6" through 18", 540 manholes, 4000 feet of force main, 2 pump stations and a 0.65 mgd Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) to provide a cost effective wastewater collection and treatment solution for the Authority.  Gibson-Thomas Engineering Co., Inc. has been involved in all aspects of the project from feasibility studies, Act 537 approval, funding, design, construction, inspection and management.  This project was completed in November 1997.
